Catherine Niemiec, JD, L.Ac., Appointed as Member-at-Large to CCAHM Executive Committee

December 23, 2024 – Centennial, CO – The Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (CCAHM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine Niemiec, JD, L.Ac., to the Executive Committee as Member-at-Large. This appointment fills the vacancy left following Ben Griffith’s election as Vice President. Catherine’s initial term will run through November 2025, at which time she will be eligible for re-election.

Catherine Niemiec is an accomplished leader in the field of acupuncture and herbal medicine. She currently serves as the President and CEO of the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture (PIHMA) and brings decades of experience in leadership, education, accreditation, and association management. Catherine previously served on the CCAHM Executive Committee as Vice President from 2003 to 2007, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to advancing acupuncture and herbal medicine education. Her additional past roles include Chair, Vice-Chair, and Commissioner at the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM), as well as President of the Arizona Society of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Thomas Kouo, DAOM, L.Ac., Dipl.OM, President of CCAHM, shared his enthusiasm for Catherine’s appointment: "I have worked with Catherine for years and I am thrilled to welcome her back to the Executive Committee. Catherine is a former Vice-President of the Council and her extensive experience and deep understanding of our profession make her perfectly suited to help guide us forward. Catherine’s leadership, combined with her expertise in higher education, holistic medicine, and accreditation, will be a valuable asset to CCAHM as the organization navigates the opportunities and challenges in the years ahead. Catherine Niemiec expressed her excitement about the opportunity, saying: "I am honored to return to the CCAHM Executive Committee and serve alongside such dedicated leaders in our field. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues to support member schools, foster innovation in education, and address the evolving needs of acupuncture and herbal medicine programs."
