We are pleased to announce an upcoming faculty development opportunity focusing on educational assessment theory and best practices tailored specifically for acupuncture and herbal medicine educators. This 90-minute tailored virtual workshop is designed for faculty of CCAHM member schools on the topic of educational theory and best practices in creating student assessment tools. Participants will learn to develop assessment instruments that address the needs of all stakeholders while meeting educational requirements in the field of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Participants will:
-Understand the fundamental principles of educational assessment and key theories related to student evaluation
-Identify and differentiate between various assessment tools, including formative and summative assessments
-Develop effective and reliable assessment instruments that accurately measure student learning outcomes and competencies
-Evaluate and improve existing assessment strategies using data-driven approaches
Jeral Kirwan, PhD
Dr. Kirwan brings extensive expertise in educational psychology, research methods, and assessment design. With a PhD in Social Psychology and Educational Research, an MA in Educational Psychology with focus on Adult Learning, an MA in Applied Statistics from Penn State, and Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Anthropology, Dr. Kirwan has dedicated his research to understanding how personality correlates with various aspects of learning.
His professional experience includes roles as a program evaluator, psychometrician, university-level instructor, and Director of Research & Creative Scholarship. Dr. Kirwan has taught across multiple institutions including the University of Denver, Southern New Hampshire University, and the University of Arizona, specializing in research methods, statistics, and psychology courses.
